Maggie Steele is the founder of 7 th Generation Warriors for Peace an organization dedicated to
working with tribes, communities, organizations, adult and youth detention facilities, in cultural
leadership, healing and empowerment. She has implemented leadership programs and youth
events throughout California and the United States and has been recognized by the Society of
Professionals in Dispute Resolution for her excellence and innovation in working with Native
and Inner-city communities.
Maggie is also distinguished professional mediator/peacemaker and has been recognized by the
Violence Prevention Coalition of Orange County as an Ambassador for Peace, Chiefs award
from Chief of probation OC, California Department of Education distinguished Native American
educator and was awarded the prestigious Mary Parker Follet Award by the Society of
Professionals in Dispute Resolution for her excellence and innovation in the field of conflict
resolution. She is also a Community Fellow for the California Wellness Foundation Violence
Prevention Initiative.
Maggie specializes in promoting healing and wellness through grass roots organizing and
cultural leadership. She also has special expertise working with incarcerated populations and
had brought cultural art, drum making, singing and poetry to facilities such as Folsom Old and
New, Folsom women’s facility as well, Dunnigan and Chowchilla women’s facility, Solano
corrections as well as Solano Psychiatric, Sacramento Youth Detention Facility and most
recently Soledad. She is an accomplished artist, storyteller, poet and singer. She is also loved
and respected throughout the nation. Maggie is originally from San Diego and currently resides
in Sacramento, she is Chicana and a member of the Chiricahua Apache Nation,
